"PhotoMonth" — a monthly photo challenge

"PhotoMonth" is a curatorial project by Ukrainian photographer Taras Bychko, aimed at developing Ukrainian street photography and increasing its visibility in the world.

Ukrainian photographers are invited to participate regardless of their country of residence. Participation is free. Every month, participants receive a new theme and explore it through their own works in the street photography genre. The theme can be interpreted in different ways: literally, personally, or metaphorically.

"PhotoMonth" has a competitive component, but above all, it is a curatorial project. The selection reflects the personal vision of Taras Bychko and is not an objective rating of all participants. Every month, the curator will select 12 finalist works from the submitted photos. Among them, the winners of the first, second, and third places will be determined. Separately, an audience vote will take place among the finalists to determine its winner.

The first cycle will run from October 2026 to September 2027. After its completion, an exhibition of the works of all finalists, the printing of catalogs, and other events and activities dedicated to Ukrainian street photography are planned.

Conditions of participation

• Participation is open to Ukrainian photographers regardless of their country of residence and is free of charge.
• Original photographs in the street photography genre that correspond to the theme of the current month are accepted.
• The photograph must be taken exactly in the month of the challenge and uploaded to the site before the end of this month. Archival works are not accepted.
• Each participant can upload no more than one photograph per calendar day. The total number of works during the month is unlimited.

By submitting photographs to the "PhotoMonth" photo challenge, you confirm that you are their author or have the right to submit them, and you agree to the rules of participation and the terms of use of the works. The copyright to the photographs remains with you. You grant the organizer permission to use the selected works to present the project, in particular to publish them on the website and project platforms, show them at the final exhibition, and include them in the "PhotoMonth" catalog. Authorship will be indicated when publishing the works.
